Lightsabers. Final Report. (Genius Hour)

Even though REAL lightsabers can't be made, (Lack of power source so compact, Blade would be indefinite, and kyber crystals don't exist) many varieties of fake lightsabers exist.

The most common kind of saber is the swing-saber (Not its actual name, I couldn't find the companies name who makes it). This saber is "Powered" by you swinging it to extend the blade, similar to a lightsaber turning on. Although this is the most common, and least expensive (Usually $9.99), it is cheaply made. It shouldn't be used to hit against other sabers with full force, as the plastic will dent and bend and sometimes crack.

The next saber is Disney's lightsaber. This one is very cool. Even though they only have two sabers in store and two online only, (Kylo Ren's, Darth Vader's, yoda's and Rey/Luke/Anakin's) it is high quality. The blade doesn't retract, it lights up. With the press of a button, the blade lights up and a speaker makes noise as a saber would. If you swing the saber, a swinging noise is made. If you hit an object, a loud electric, plasmic, noise is made. The plastic blade on this is stronger and can be used in battle. This blade is more expensive. ($29.95)

The final saber is Saberforge's Adaptive Saber Parts. Even though these lightsabers are not from the movies, they are custom. When Saberforge was promoting their business, they had a special offer where you could make your own saber at Saber Parts. I made my own lightsaber. However, this offer is over and you can only get certain sabers at Saberforge's Website. These sabers, like Disney's are high quality, with noise, lights and fun. And even better, you don't receive a lightsaber when you purchase one. You are delievered the parts and YOU have to put it together. You learn how to make your own lightsaber! The only thing is, the prices vary. Apprentice Sabers start at $49 and add with accessories and kits. Elite sabers start at $149. Crystal Sabers start at $249 but have the crystal chamber showing.

  2. This is a great and original Genius Hour project idea, Ayden! It also could be an interesting story idea; a character who is obsessed with Star Wars and wants to build his own light saber in the "real world" and does; it would be a "magical realism" story.
